Deeply woven into the fabric of Māori lore, taniwha are mighty, mystical beings who serve as protectors and guides. When honoured and respected, they become fierce kaitiaki (guardians) not only of people but places as well. With the ability to shapeshift, in the water they could be sharks, whales, giant squids, while on land they could be dragon-like creatures forming a connection between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Agate is said to be calming and grounding making it a popular choice for those who need balance or extra protection, especially when embarking on journeys—both physical and emotional. Enhances self-reflection, encourages the wearer to slow down, process thoughts carefully, and make decisions based on a deep understanding rather than impulse.

Comes with an adjustable cord and a jute drawstring bag.

This will be the exact piece you will receive in the photos, there may be a slight degree of colour variation based on different computer or mobile phone screen resolutions that you are viewing from.

BEHIND NIHO/TANIWHA

Taniwha, when honoured and respected, can be a powerful, protective guardian - not just to people, but places as well. With the ability to shape-shift, in the water they could be sharks while on land, they could be dragon-like creatures. These kaitiaki (guardians) live in the depths of the rivers and seas, often where dangerous currents are. They form a connection between the physical world and the spiritual world of our ancestors.

The Niho represents strength, leadership and resilience.

HEIRLOOM GUARANTEE

Hear from our happy customers

We have received excellent service, thank you. We wanted to buy a gift for a special friend in the US who is grieving the lose of a loved one. Dee helped us choose the perfect item, she seemed to know instinctively what was right, even helping us choose a suitable card. All the staff involved have worked hard to make this just right for our friend and for us.
