Crafted from conch or triton shells washed ashore, it featured a carved wooden mouthpiece bound with muka (flax fibre) thongs and was often adorned with beautiful feathers. Combining shell and wood symbolised the union of the mighty gods Tane (God of the Forest) and Tangaroa (God of the Sea). Producing a powerful sound that travelled far across the landscape, the pūtātara was held in high regard as a treasured heirloom.

This will be the exact piece you will receive in the photos, there may be a slight degree of colour variation based on different computer or mobile phone screen resolutions that you are viewing from.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0143/3812/9974/files/441b_a85fdc13-d838-411a-a863-bd985f7d6241.jpg?v=1793677062
