LG Kotiate - Flower Jade Pounamu - A128

Stunning Flower Jade Pounamu Kotiate, carved by Aden Hoglund.

Kotiate are a short-handled weapon shaped like a club with a flat elongated edge designed for close combat. Its name means to cut or divide the liver most likely named for its resemblance to the lobed part of a human liver. Maori chiefs often held this weapon while giving speeches. Though they were made from a variety of mediums such as wood or bone ones carved from pounamu were highly prized.

A symbol of courage, respect, strength and will enable you to cut thru life’s obstacles

Pounamu or Greenstone is regarded as a stone sacred to the gods by the Maori of New Zealand. As a Taonga -meaning treasured, and it should be worn with respect and pride. Pounamu is a gift from the heart.

Pounamu is so much more than a stone. It holds Wairua (spiritual essence) through its association with the land and its beauty. Each piece lends strength and well-being to the wearer, making it a true gift from the heart. Over time, Pounamu absorbs its owners' natural oils and takes on a beautiful lustre. It is then that the stone's essence becomes one with your own and the stone has truly chosen you.

We love the Pounamu we purchased from these guys and really appreciate how they replaced the cord for us a year later.
